Why Do People Like Matcha?

matcha

Don’t see this as a rant, but as a call for help. I need tips to stick to one of my resolutions. Last year, I drank a record number of chai lattes, and I don’t think that’s particularly healthy for me. So I decided to switch to matcha lattes. And ever since, everything has gone wrong, because this stuff is genuinely undrinkable.

By now, I’ve tried several coffee shops, and I even bought the powder to use at home. Good-quality powder, too; the kind they use themselves at one of the better coffee shops. And I heard that Monica Geuze uses this one too, so it’s good enough for me.

This tastes like absolutely nothing

Whether I drink it with oat, coconut or regular milk; it tastes like absolutely nothing. As if I’m downing a mouthful of soil, and if I haven’t stirred it well enough, there are bits in it, and it even feels like a mouthful of soil. Okay, that last part is obviously entirely my own fault, but still; that taste. I briefly considered making a matcha cake with it, but that’s somewhat at odds with the whole ‘healthier’ point that made me start this matcha nonsense in the first place.

So that’s why I have a sincere question: does anyone seriously drink this because it tastes good, and if so, what’s your secret?
