Why I can never make a (normal) smoothie again

Presenting a cooking programme on television used to be a profession; nowadays, anyone and their mother can put together a silly culinary vlog on their mobile phone. Sometimes with toe-curlingly awful results. Fortunately, the smart cookies at Sluipschutters feel the same way. And the way they make a smoothie? I’m dying!

Do those vain cooking videos by culinary influencers who stare at themselves on the screen the whole time, with a duck face and an Insta-perfectly raised eyebrow (or did the brow lady go completely overboard?) give you the creeps too? It seems like they all want to be Jamie or Gordon or Nigella, with their over-the-top cheerfulness and recycled nuggets of wisdom.
Smoothie à la Sluipschutters
The Sluipschutters have packed all the irritation I feel about those kinds of videos and vlogs into this clip, which means I can never make smoothies normally again.
Do something too, Herman
If you don’t recognise the actors, it really does look exactly like an everyday home video with a recipe, beauty tips and some lifestyle advice. It’s only when they start blanching the leek that you start to wonder: is this right? Before Herman is allowed to switch on the blender, you already know that you’re watching a very unusual recipe.
Extra virgin olive oil
This smoothie contains, write this down: orange juice, beetroot, a frozen frikandel (defrosted), laxatives for the detox effect, olive oil, Dutch new herring and raw onions… Um, what? That image is impossible to forget.
The next time you put avocado, spinach and pineapple in your blender, a voice with a soft regional accent will sound in the back of your mind: ‘Would be nice to add a little frikandel to that.’
