Many Amsterdam locals have known it for years: for the best Thai dishes, you need to go to Bird Thai Restaurant on the Zeedijk. Want to sit down somewhere a little more quietly? Then head to their restaurant opposite. But owners Patrick Mertens and Boy Romeo Aunjai felt it was time for something new, so they opened Silom Thai Brasserie in the Voetboogsteeg.

What do you eat at Silom Thai Brasserie?

You won’t have to miss Bird Thai Restaurant’s delicious pad thai and tom yam kai: a large part of the menu is coming along. So what’s new? They are adding a whole series of more experimental dishes. Think crocodile-meat satay or mega-spicy drunken noodles.

A must try, according to the owners, is the massaman curry with lamb shank. ‘It’s a mild curry with potato and nuts, and the meat is so tender that it simply falls off the bone. Highly recommended.’
