You can now buy pepernoten beer at HEMA

Leave it to HEMA to make beers with unusual flavors. Because after the tompouce beer and smoked sausage beer, it’s time for another variant. And since the holidays are approaching, starting with Sinterklaas, you can now buy pepernoten beer at the cheerful store. 

Spicy and light

Following the previous collaborations with Lowlander and vanderStreek, the store is now joining forces with HOOP brewery in the Zaanstreek region. HOOP makes its beers with local ingredients—and this time, that means pepernoten.

And that results in a unique little beer. Spicy, but certainly not heavy (7%). The color is brown, comparable to that of pepernoten. You can especially taste the flavors of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ginger and cardamom. My verdict? Pepernoten beer is unusual but definitely tasty, especially with a bag of pepernoten as a side dish.

The pepernoten beer is available at various HEMA branches or can be ordered online in a gift set with 4 bottles for 11 euros.
