You can now buy HEMA tompouce beer—and yes, you’ll want to taste it!
Say tompouce and we’re all ears! From tompouce donuts and tompouce pie to tompouce iced coffee and a real tompouce drive-thru, we think it’s all fun and delicious. But now we’ve come across something truly special: tompouce beer! Yes, it really exists, and you can probably guess what’s best to drink it with. A tompouce, of course!
For this special beer, HEMA teamed up with our friends at Lowlander Botanical Beers. Lowlander isn’t afraid to experiment when brewing beer. For example, they’ve been making special winter beer for several years now, made from—yes, really—Christmas trees! With tompouce beer, they’re taking a different, very sweet direction. With aromas of vanilla and raspberry, this is a beer that will make many (women’s) hearts beat faster…
Lowlander Tompouce Ale
Lowlander Tompouce Ale is a specialty beer unlike anything we’ve seen before. The beer pays tribute to the HEMA icon—what else could it be but the tompouce! With a hint of fresh raspberry and a subtle touch of creamy vanilla, this Tompouce Ale is a dream come true.
Ale?
Ale originally comes from Great Britain, but you can also find ale in the Netherlands, such as barley wine. Amber beer is also an ale, and of course IPA is a particular type of ale too. The ingredients used in the ale brewing process are virtually the same as those used for lager, but the main difference lies in fermentation. Ale is top-fermented beer (the beer ferments at a relatively high temperature and the yeast remains floating on top of the brew, hence the name), and the types of malt used for ale are endless; in addition to the light malts used for lager, caramel or roasted barley malt is often added. This gives the beer its amber or copper-like color.
Naturally, there was a rush for this special beer last summer, and good news for all fans: the cheerful pink can is back on sale.

This milkshake-style blonde ale is a taste sensation you won’t want to miss. It’s perfect for raising a toast—and of course, a real HEMA tompouce is an essential accompaniment! Lowlander Tompouce Ale is available again from today via hema.nl and at almost all HEMA stores in the Netherlands and Belgium. A can costs €2.50 and is also available from Lowlander. There, you pay €10 for a 4-pack. One can contains 5% alcohol.
