Celebrate King’s Day with an orange tompouce at this tompouce drive-thru

Robèrt_Oranje tompoucen

Recently, we went completely wild in the newsroom over Appie’s tompouce donut. Because mention tompouce and we’re sold, whatever the variation. A crispy tompouce with a glossy layer of icing and a creamy pastry filling—we’re always up for that. And when they’re also made by a Master Pastry Chef… Especially for King’s Day, Master Baker Robèrt van Beckhoven is bringing orange tompoucen, which you can pick up at the drive-thru.

It doesn’t get much more Dutch than the tompouce. This impossible-to-eat-decently pastry made from puff pastry and pastry cream, topped with pink icing… delicious! A must-have at grandma’s birthday, and coloured orange, a King’s Day classic. We’d rather skip the supermarket versions, filled with airy, flavourless factory-made cream. We prefer firm, gooey pastry cream with vanilla between the layers of our tompouce. Robèrt gets it.

The tastiest in the Netherlands

He makes double-deckers from homemade puff pastry with 100% butter, airy Swiss cream with real vanilla and delicious orange fondant—so you really don’t want to miss them. You don’t have to, either, because on 27 April they can be picked up safely and quickly via a well-oiled orange drive-thru in Oisterwijk.

Orange all the way

Besides tompoucen, Robèrt and his team have more orange treats in store: from tiger choux pastries and macarons to dragees and chocolate sprinkles. Fans can place their order via Robèrt’s webshop and pick it up at the bakery’s pick-up point in Oisterwijk at the selected time, following COVID-safe measures—as a drive-thru on King’s Day. You pay ten euros for four pieces.

Are you a licker or a splitter?

There are all kinds of different methods for how to eat it afterwards. How do you eat your tompouce?

Got the taste and ready for the next pit stop? Then stop by one of the 13 drive-thrus where you can pick up fantastic dishes. Great fun and delicious!
