You can now buy pizza with fries at Lidl

Can’t choose between fries or pizza? Then trot over to Lidl, because starting tomorrow (29 January 2025), they’ll be selling pizza with fries. And apparently, that’s very Belgian.

This combination isn’t new. After the cheeseburger pizza and frikandel pizza, Domino’s also came out with pizza with fries a while ago. They called it Pizza Fritzza (no comment). And apparently, pizza with fries is even normal in Italy?! They call it pizza patatine e würstel there, and according to experts, it’s the absolute- absolute- absolute best filthy pizza on the menu in Italy.
Pizza patatine fritte
Pizza patatine fritte is a simple pizza margherita topped with fried fries. The fries are only added to the pizza when it is almost done, so both the fries and the pizza are cooked to perfection. But did you think it was an Italian invention? Or is it a Belgian brainwave?
Belgian pizza
Pizza with fries is also known as a ‘Belgian pizza’. The Belgian pizza is one of the highlights at pita and pizza shop Ediz in Kwatrecht. The owner, Bülent, simply came up with it one evening. “I was born in Belgium and I know what a Belgian likes to eat: fries, stew and mayonnaise,” says Bülent.
And that’s how you can now buy this Belgian pizza at Lidl, because it’s Belgian weeks at the supermarket chain.
Lidl fries pizza
There is no stew on it; Lidl’s pizza with fries is made with tomato sauce and mozzarella. You can bring one home for 2.49 euros. Be quick, though, because this pizza is only being sold during Belgian weeks, and when it’s gone, it’s gone. Is this a step too far for you? They also sell marinated mussels or a fish casserole, delicious with a Belgian beer.
