You can now find a pizza vending machine in this Dutch city
What a brilliant invention. One that surprised me not to have existed for ages: a pizza vending machine. Nijmegen has one, and Snack Nieuws stopped by to give it a try. Convenient—now we immediately know whether it’s worth it.
This pizza vending machine can deliver a fresh pizza within five minutes. You can choose from four types: Margherita, four cheese, tuna and spinach, and salmon. The last two don’t exactly seem authentically Italian to me, but oh well; they could still taste delicious, of course.
A success so far
An average of ten pizzas are made each day, so Nijmegen is calling it a success. It probably won’t surprise you that it’s especially popular late at night. It sounds wonderful to me too: rolling out of the Cooldown and immediately picking up a little pizza to take home. The vending machine contains an oven that bakes every order right away, so within just a few minutes you have a fresh pizza in your hand. They aren’t cheap—between ten and twelve euros—and not everyone is happy with the quality either. Apparently, the crust isn’t crispy and the toppings are distributed very poorly. But I suspect that matters a lot less after eighteen beers.
Remarkably, there still isn’t one in Amsterdam, while The Hague is already the proud owner of a pizza vending machine. Other countries have embraced them too: Spain and France already have several versions.
