You don’t want to miss this: the hilarious cooking battle De Kookklunzen
Unless you always gourmet, every year brings the same big question: what are we going to do for Christmas dinner? For the kitchen princes and princesses among us, of course, it’s not an issue; Christmas is the perfect moment for them to shine. For the cooking klutzes, on the other hand… Not so much. In the new programme De Kookklunzen, cooking klutzes (yes, really) and Christmas dinner take centre stage. Chef Herman den Blijker takes on the challenge and, together with three contestants who absolutely cannot cook, goes up against another three-person team of cooking klutzes led by a fellow chef. The goal? To get a delicious three-course Christmas dinner on the table. But without any help from Herman or the other chef…
And yes, that makes for hilarious television. Because in this programme, no help really means no help. Herman and his colleague aren’t allowed to pick up a spoon, touch a knife or put a pan on the stove. They aren’t even allowed to be in the kitchen. The contestants have to make do with limited instructions, which they see and hear on a screen in the kitchen. And as if that weren’t enough, there’s also a maximum cooking time, which they can extend only by winning presenter Gordon’s culinary quiz. All the ingredients for plenty of stress (and entertainment), then.
New kitchen stars or eternal cooking klutzes?
The dinner is judged by a rotating, five-member jury of Dutch celebrities, including Donnie (of the FEBO snack ‘t Fenomeentje), London Loy (of those delicious Surinamese meatballs!), Tooske Ragas, Meneer Reimers, Roberta Pagnier, Ellemieke Vermolen and Vanja van der Leeden (who previously tipped us off about her favourite Indonesian takeaway spots and restaurants in Amsterdam.) A prize of €3,000 can be won for each course. The team that cooks its way to the most money in the end wins. And the team that loses… Well, they remain cooking klutzes.
