You couldn’t make it up: Finnish microbrewery Ant Brew is brewing a beer with goose droppings as one of the ingredients. With this beer, the brewers are drawing attention to food waste and sustainability. Erm… cheers?

The beer is called Wasted Potential Imperial Stout. The goose droppings were collected by the brewers in the parks of Lahti, the city where Ant Brew is based. ‘Those geese make a huge mess in our parks,’ the brewery’s press release states. ‘Now the parks are neat and tidy again. And our beer is ideally suited to enjoy as a summer drink at a picnic in one of the parks. That really is a fine example of killing two birds with one stone.’

Strange taste?

Kari Puttonen of Ant Brew explains: ‘With this beer, we are drawing attention to food waste, waste problems, urban farming, and local and sustainable purchasing.’ Does the beer taste like goose droppings? Not really, probably: the manure is used to roast the malt, giving the beer a delicious smokey flavor.
