6x our favorite breakfasts

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, they say, but many people still pay little attention to it. You’re in a hurry, eat quickly on the train, have a sandwich on your bike or skip it altogether. You really don’t have to start eating a full English breakfast right away; with these recipes, you’ll already be well on your way.

Monte Cristo sandwich
French toast is already a perfectly good breakfast, but topped with ham and cheese it’s even better. The best hangover breakfast ever. Even if you don’t have a hangover at all.
Breakfast pizza
Pizza for breakfast? No problem at all. Apparently, it’s even healthier than cruesli. Not that we really care, because we’re going to eat this breakfast pizza with a runny egg yolk anyway. Oh, and it’s also topped with cheese and bacon—what more could you want?

Buttermilk pancakes
Not everyone likes buttermilk, but we’re sure there are very few people who would turn down these pancakes. They don’t taste like buttermilk at all, but they are wonderfully fluffy.
Croque in the hole
The best of both worlds: a combination of toad in the hole (a sandwich with an egg in it) and a croque madame. The perfect grilled sandwich for a rough Sunday morning. Or actually, for any morning.
The ultimate bacon toastie
Speaking of toasties for rough mornings, this one scores highly too. A grilled cheese sandwich with bacon is great, but a grilled cheese sandwich wrapped in bacon is even better. Lots of salt, lots of fat—a truly good start to the day.

Breakfast burrito
This generously filled burrito is exactly what you need when you’re very hungry early in the morning. Beans, bacon, avocado and plenty of sauce—you won’t need to eat for the rest of the day. But of course, you will.
