Make your own truffle kruidnoten

Truffelkruidnoten

Anyone who says that everything was better in the old days when it comes to the Sinterklaas celebration is completely wrong. There, I said it. Because may I just point out the arrival of chocolate, prosecco, stroopwafel, caramel, cappuccino and, of course, TRUFFLE kruidnoten? Exactly. Pretty great, right: innovation, adaptation, improvement?

Anyway, of course you can just buy them ready-made (I WANT BOLLETJE!) but isn’t it much more fun to pimp your own kruidnoten? And it turns out to be super simple, too.

The bakers among us will of course make the kruidnoten from scratch, but you can also make things easy for yourself by simply buying a bag of ‘plain’ kruidnoten. The only other things you need are chocolate and cocoa powder.

Chocolate bath

Sift the cocoa powder over a bowl so that there are no lumps left. Then melt some chocolate (I would go for white chocolate, but milk or dark chocolate will work too, of course) au bain marie.

Once the chocolate has melted, dip the kruidnoten in the chocolate first and then immediately in the cocoa powder. Would you prefer a method with slightly less risk of messy fingers? Then, after the ‘chocolate bath’, you can first place the kruidnoten on a plate lined with baking paper and sprinkle the cocoa over them using a fine sieve.

Home made

Then place them in the fridge for at least two hours so the chocolate can harden, et voilà: your home made truffle chocolate kruidnoten are ready to eat! Mmmm. It’s best to store them in an airtight jar or tin; they will keep for about a week.
