Our favorite Asian snacks

The freezer at the Asian grocery store is packed with the most delicious Asian snacks, but you can easily make them yourself too. These are our favorite recipes.

Dumplings
Our all-time favorite when we want to snack well. With this recipe, you make the filling yourself, but simply buy the wrappers at the Asian grocery store. Make lots and freeze some, so you always have a supply at home.
Scallion pancakes
Crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside: once you’ve tried this Northern Chinese pancake with spring onion, you’ll never want anything else. These savory pancakes are that addictive.
Fried shrimp
These fried shrimp come from The Curry Guy’s British-Indian cookbook. They’re perfect when you want to impress your friends. Or, let’s be honest, we just eat them all ourselves.
Spring rolls
Although we’re fans of the spring rolls from the market stall, you make the tastiest spring rolls yourself. For example, this Filipino version with pork and a great sauce.
Takoyaki
Takoyaki are a kind of Japanese mini pancake. They’re rounder than the Dutch version, which is why you bake them in a cake-pop maker instead of a poffertjes pan. You fill them with all kinds of delicious ingredients, such as octopus and dried shrimp.
Kue dadar guling
These Indonesian crêpes definitely shouldn’t be missing from this list. With this recipe, you’ll make 15 to 20 at once. And don’t think that will last you very long, because they’ll be gone in no time.
Chinese shrimp toast
Shrimp toast may not sound very Asian, but it really is a Chinese snack. A star during a dim sum session, but also delicious with a large glass of cold beer.
