5 hotspots on the North Holland coast

Enjoying Ice Cream

Whether it’s the middle of summer or you’re heading out in the first rays of spring sunshine, warm weather is the perfect opportunity to find a spot on the beach. These are the best places in North Holland to flop down after a long beach walk.

Aloha – Wijk aan Zee

You’ll find Aloha Beach at the North Pier in Wijk aan Zee. You have to walk to the bar yourself to place an order, but in return you can enjoy soto ayam and rendang prepared by an Indonesian chef. After the first bite, you’ll feel a little like you’re in Bali. Are you into water sports? Aloha organizes competitions for various water sports.

Club Zand – Castricum

At Club Zand, you can enjoy the best barbecue food all year round. It is known for its convivial ‘shared dining’. And none of that silly business with tiny portions that are barely big enough to share—you’ll get large platters with a bit of everything here. If you’re with a smaller group, the grilled flatbreads are highly recommended.

Thalassa – Zandvoort

Thalassa takes pride in its extensive knowledge of fish and the wide range of fish specialties on the menu. They value sustainable, high-quality fishing, so some fish species are not always available. The three-course menu changes monthly, so you can visit often without getting bored.

WOEST – Callantsoog

WOEST is wildly attractive thanks to its trendy interior and the delicious dishes served here. The lunch and dinner menu isn’t extensive, but that makes choosing all the easier. They serve a lovely tasting selection of snacks and, every now and then, organize a Seafood Night with live music and fresh fish.

Nautilus aan Zee – Egmond aan Zee

Nautilus is the youngster on this list. It opened its doors in 2018 and describes itself as the most sustainable beach pavilion in the Netherlands. The interior still looks brand new and the restaurant is still finding its feet a little, but it has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. Their ‘Beachburger the hangover’, with pancetta, cheddar and onion compote, is everything you want when you’ve come to the beach to forget your hangover.
