Five reasons why your kitchen tongs are your best friend

You usually only use many kitchen gadgets for one thing. You have a ladle for stirring and a whisk for beating. But I’m addicted to my kitchen tongs and use them almost every time I cook.

Here are five reasons why I can’t live without my kitchen tongs anymore. And soon, neither will you.
Turning meat
Probably what they were originally intended for, and perhaps a little obvious, but you’re best off turning meat with these tongs.
Unlike with a spatula, you have more control over the meat and can calmly place it wherever you want it in the pan, instead of it awkwardly falling off your spatula.
Stirring
If all goes well, you can lock them closed. That makes them perfect for stirring in the pan or tossing salads with dressing.
The advantage over an ordinary spatula or ladle? You make fewer things dirty, and you can once again turn pieces of meat or vegetables more skillfully than with another tool.
Pasta
Also handy: throwing pasta straight from the boiling water into your pan with sauce. Some cooking water always comes along, which a carbonara or aglio olio can always benefit from.
Oven
You can easily take a hot baking sheet with cookies or roasted vegetables out of the oven with tongs. Oven mitts aren’t necessary, because you don’t feel a thing with the tongs. Think of them as an extension of your arm, allowing you to pick up anything without getting burned.
Paper towels
The same goes for using a sheet of paper towel to clean scorching-hot pans. Give it a quick wipe and it’s ready for the next cooking session. Or are you frying vegetables and too much moisture is coming out? If you let it drain into the sink, food often falls out of the pan along with it. But with a paper towel and your tongs, you can dry everything in a few seconds while your food stays safely in the pan.
