10x food that’s disgustingly delicious #13

As much as we sometimes (or rather: quite often) like to make a big deal about food, we all have a soft spot for stuff that’s disgusting and delicious at the same time. But it’s not just us—so do you! These are the favorite disgustingly delicious snacks of FavorFlav’s readers. Is your guilty pleasure among them too?

Filet Americain egg salad
Oh dear, this sounds anything but relaxed. Filet Americain with egg salad? We’ll pass for now.
Salmon and honey
“Salmon with cream cheese and honey,” says one experimental reader. Sounds fine to me, right? Cooking salmon in honey sauce is delicious too, so why wouldn’t this be?
Canned nasi
“My favorite: canned nasi!” Admittedly, I didn’t know this existed until today. But indeed, it exists. And I find it a little scary. Season with love dared to try it, and after reading her review, I think I’ll pass on this can.
Peanut butter +
“A peanut butter sandwich with salami!” Peanut butter is an absolute favorite among our readers for mixing with other products. They spread it over or dip it into practically everything. Peanut butter with salami is a first for us—and hopefully also the last.
Microwave “cheeseburgers”
“I miss microwave cheeseburgers!” exclaimed one enthusiastic reader. And dear reader, you’re absolutely right. I miss them too. I hadn’t thought about microwave cheeseburgers in so long. A few times, when my hangover was truly unbearable and I had convinced (read: bribed) my housemate to do the grocery shopping for me, she would come back with microwave cheeseburgers. After eating them, I couldn’t go to the bathroom for a week, and I certainly didn’t feel any better, but damn, they were disgustingly delicious!

Liver sausage spread and strawberry jam
“A Kaiser roll with liver sausage spread and strawberry jam.” Doesn’t liver sausage spread belong on this list all by itself? Let alone with strawberry jam!
Student food
“Mashed potatoes you make with water.” Oh, this takes me back to my student days. When my body consisted of dry crackers, noodles, garlic bread, beer and, above all: a sachet of mashed potato powder mixed with water. Deliciously gross!
Apple with sauce
“Apple with ketchup, delicious!” Delicious? Yuck! Did you perhaps think this would help you get even more fruit and vegetables? Think again!

Sushi
“Supermarket sushi!” I can understand that it’s secretly quite tasty—I mean, it’s sushi. But I still don’t trust it. Where has it been? Where does it come from? Where is it going? No, I’ll just go to the Japanese restaurant.

Pastel de nata
“Pastéis de nata from Lidl!” No, no and no again. Take it from me and my Portuguese heritage: the pastéis de nata you find at Lidl have nothing to do with the real Portuguese pastéis. And they’re not tasty either—just gross. My Portuguese heart cries when I think of the people who assume, because of Lidl, that these pastries have anything to do with the real deal. Won’t be in Portugal anytime soon, but still want to know how it’s supposed to taste? Then head over to Casa Bocage on Haarlemmerstraat in Amsterdam. Eat, taste and learn.
