10x food that’s disgustingly delicious #6

frikandelbroodje-3

As cool as we can sometimes (or rather: quite often) act about food, we all have a soft spot for disgusting yet delicious shizzle. These are the editorial team at FavorFlav’s favorite disgustingly delicious snacks right now. Is your guilty pleasure among them too?

Not for the faint-hearted

Sabina: I think I basically only eat disgustingly delicious food. Current hang-up: Chipito cheese snacks with that delicious fake-cheese flavor. I love how their sort of bubble-like texture makes them stick to my tongue, and they’re so light and airy, so they crunch. And salty, you know—I’m crazy about salt. The fact that I even still have kidneys is nothing short of a miracle. I do drink a glass of milk with them, because that makes me feel like it’s more or less healthy. And do I find those Chipito-coated fingers annoying? (Yes folks, we have a germaphobic editor-in-chief among us.) No, I have two cats, so I wipe it off on them.

Keep going until you really can’t anymore

Sharon: eating an entire jar of Duo Penotti with a teaspoon on the sofa. So not putting it away after two bites. Keep going until you feel sick. Put it back. Show some backbone. Go back to the sofa. Get up. Grab the jar again. Clean spoon and carry on. Until you’re so nauseous that you tell yourself the Duo Penotti equivalent of “I’m never drinking again.” This disgustingly delicious ritual: for years.

With extra mayo

Sylvia: a regular hot dog with loads of Zaanse mayo. Disgustingly delicious!

The ketchup effect

Laura: Big American BBQ Chicken frozen pizza. When those little dollops of “ketchup” have melted properly… Maximum disgusting deliciousness!

Including the whole experience

Iris: I really love McDonald’s. My regular order: large fries with two mayos, a regular hamburger, a large vanilla milkshake and a large cookie. I savor it intensely. Take plenty of time for it and really settle in. Sometimes an entire hour and completely alone, as a treat after a very busy period at work or on the last day of vacation. And yes, my friends are very scornful about it: “Eating McDonald’s is delicious?!” Yes, it is! Now you can only get it as takeaway or have it delivered, but then you miss the experience. I can’t wait until they open again!

The biggest thing I miss as a vegan

Manon: frikandel rolls! That’s the only thing I really miss since becoming vegan. Damn, why is that so incredibly bad and disgustingly delicious!

What don’t I like, really?

Adeline: I almost don’t dare say it after my tirade, but definitely Johma chicken curry salad. Just like the HEMA hot dog. And I even enjoy the Broodje Unox package from the supermarket. When I’m drunk: ready-made toasted sandwiches in the pub. Now that we’re talking about it: no deliciously disgusting food is beyond me.

To get through the day

Vincent: a prepackaged white bread roll with egg from the supermarket. This addiction began when I lived near the classic Italian ice cream and coffee parlor Florencia and, every Saturday, horribly hungover, got a fresh roll with egg and mayonnaise and fresh coffee. The soggy supermarket roll with its little packet of mayo, pepper and salt obviously doesn’t compare to the original from The Hague, but as an egg addict, it sometimes provides just the kick needed to get through the day.

But now with peanut butter

Marcus: Chipito with peanut-butter flavor! Those brittle, airy, just-too-salty peanut snacks made from puffed corn, packed with chemical flavorings and colorants that always stick so deliciously to the roof of your mouth.

“Garlic sauce?” OF COURSE!

Delilah: I didn’t know I could miss this so much during quarantine, but a late-night Turkish pizza with chicken döner, no onion, extra peppers, sambal—yes, “garlic sauce?” OF COURSE!, what am I, an animal?! Divine, so disgusting and delicious.
