You can roll all kinds of things in sticky rice, slice them up and call it sushi, but some varieties really go too far. Sushi with frankfurters? With Spam? With tinned sweetcorn? Hellooo, we really don’t want to try these 11 sushi varieties.

When sushi became famous outside Japan, the traditional recipe changed a little in each country. Sushi with sea urchin and crab innards is particularly popular in Japan, while outside Japan people eat sushi with avocado and a dollop of mayo, such as California rolls. Chefs all over the world experiment with local ingredients and the traditional preparation of nori, sushi rice and soy sauce – and not all of those experiments are equally successful. What do you think of sushi with haggis? With Spam? Or with grasshopper? Er… we’ll pass for now.
