5x the tastiest vegan ice cream parlors

Ice cream, but without the cream. These ice cream parlors scoop delicious vegan ice cream into your cone. Not only delicious for vegans, but for anyone who enjoys an ice cream (or two). You’re welcome.

JuiceBrothers x Van Leeuwen, Amsterdam
We personally have no problem traveling to LA or New York to taste the delicious vegan ice creams from Van Leeuwen. Unfortunately, our wallets do. But no worries. Did you know that Van Leeuwen’s ice cream can also be found in Amsterdam? And because less isn’t always more , Van Leeuwen is also opening an extra pop-up ice cream parlor this summer at JuiceBrothers locations. Give them your sweetest smile for an extra-large scoop of ice cream. Because: flavors like Cookie and Banana Walnut. Need we say more?
IJspressi, Almere
As soon as the first rays of sunshine of the year break through, it gets incredibly busy here. Understandably so, because at IJspressi, it seems as though making ice cream is a piece of cake. There are three locations in Almere: in the city, Almere Buiten and Almere Poort. All the ice cream is made at the Poort location, right behind the counter (you’re welcome to sneak a peek). Besides “regular” ice cream, they also have plenty of vegan, gluten-free and even sugar-free options. Another fun detail: you can turn any flavor into your own custom made milkshake. What we’ll take a detour for: limoncello ice cream. With alcohol. So get an Uber to Almere, please!
Crudo, Nijmegen
With a menu that runs 16 (!) pages long, Crudo is not only on our list of favorite vegan ice cream parlors. This Organic Vegan Food Store also serves divine salads, sandwiches and hot dishes… And so we don’t get too distracted: delicious ice cream too. Think flavors like salted caramel and brownie. That makes us happy! Brownie points for Crudo!
Tofani, Amsterdam
Everyone with a ginger obsession: listen up! At ice cream parlor Tofani, one of the vegan options is ginger ice cream. No fuss: you’ll find simply good, traditional Italian ice cream here. Just make sure to get a cup, because unfortunately they don’t have vegan cones. But hey, we’re not complaining—the delicious ice cream makes up for everything. And bonus: you can fully make up for the calories you miss from the cone with an extra scoop. Buon appetito!
Pele Surf Shack, Hoek van Holland
Once beach-club season has officially opened, you’ll find us at vegan beach club Pele Surf Shack. From the food (bowls for days) to the interior: it’s Hawaii vibes all the way. Everything at this beach club is 100% vegan, so go wild. And yes, they serve various soft serve ice creams until five in the afternoon. And we’re happy about that, because between swimming and building sandcastles, everyone deserves a delicious ice cream.
Tip: sorbet is usually vegan, so if you can’t make it to one of these places, you can’t go wrong with a scoop of lemon sorbet. Do ask beforehand, though, because sometimes it contains honey or a little milk.
