8x sneaking food into the cinema; we all do it!
If you say you’ve never smuggled something into the cinema in your bag, you’re lying. Everyone does it; and some people have crazier habits than others. We asked around.
McMovie
I almost hate to admit it, but I’ve walked into the cinema with a Big Mac in my bag several times. There’s a McDonald’s next to Pathé de Munt in Amsterdam, and more than once I haven’t been able to resist. A Big Mac and McFlurry in my bag and ready to enjoy. To everyone who was sitting in the Pathé about 10 years ago and thought, “Ugh, what’s that smell, who’s eating Maccie in here?” My sincere apologies.
Candy
I’m seriously addicted to candy. Instead of seeking help to overcome my addiction, I choose the more fun option: sneaking candy into the cinema. Going to see a film in the city centre was a real treat; it always started with a pit stop at candy heaven Jamin for one of those enormous bags.
Caramel
Did you know that cinemas don’t sell caramel popcorn? What’s the point of going, then? Exactly, smuggling it in is a must. Tip: Werther’s Original caramel popcorn.
Rabbit food
Yes, I bring carrots to the cinema. Ever since I got a cinema pass, I’ve been going to the cinema a lot. I exercise more, drink less and therefore go out less. The cinema is now my form of entertainment; but I really need to eat when I go to a film. To avoid gaining too much weight from my weekly cinema visits, I often bring carrots. Those little snack carrots and homemade hummus. Boring, right?
Popcorn 2.0
I simply find popcorn at cinemas very expensive. So I always bring a bag of salted popcorn from the supermarket and Maltesers. I can’t watch a film without Maltesers anyway; not at home, nowhere. I just tip the Maltesers into the bag of popcorn. The perfect combination.
Sushi and wine
I hope I don’t come across as too decadent; but sushi and wine is the way to go for me. I really see going to the cinema as an outing. Afterwards I usually go out for dinner and into the city; so I like to arrive already in the mood with a box of sushi and a bottle of wine. Highly recommended!
(Space)cake
I once brought cake to the cinema because it had turned out really well. We were happily eating it in the cinema. People behind us said: hey, cake! I said, ‘Yes, delicious, homemade.’ I even gave them a piece. They were disappointed because they thought it was space cake. But it was simply delicious vanilla-chocolate cake.
My two best friends
I don’t go to the cinema without my two best friends: Ben & Jerry. Paying for a film and then not being able to eat my favourite ice cream is a real crime, but otherwise the costs get so high! I’d rather bring my own tub from the supermarket; much cheaper! It’s a shame you can no longer buy these Ben & Jerry’s flavours.
