A quarter of working Dutch people find their colleagues disgusting
Who cleans up the lunch mess? Who turns on the dishwasher? And who absolutely reeks? Research shows that a quarter of working Dutch people see their colleagues as real filthy pigs. Employees also complain that the office is not properly cleaned.
More than a thousand employed people answered questions about hygiene in the office, which one-fifth of respondents consider inadequate. Dirty meeting rooms, crumbs on desks and used coffee cups everywhere: many Dutch workplaces are—if the research is to be believed—quite a filthy mess. Women in particular are annoyed by dirt in the office.
Food smells
Men mainly complain about their colleagues’ personal hygiene. More than thirty percent of men say that their colleagues are dirty and stink. The research mentions unwashed hair, food smells and musty clothing as annoyances. A quarter of participants even say they are outright disgusted by a colleague.
Permanent flex workspace
Is everything better at home? Probably, or at least no one has to deal with your mess. Unfortunately, working from home does not result in cleaner offices: one in seven respondents says that the workplace has actually become dirtier. Coffee rings, cookie crumbs, hairs on the office chair and fluff in the keyboard at a flex workspace often make people choose the same workspace, and clean it before they get started.
