According to experts, these drinks cause the worst hangovers

For many people, the Christmas holidays are all about food, but certainly also about drinking — and that sometimes gets a little excessive, which means you look far less cheerful in the morning than you did the night before. So take this as a warning, because according to experts, there are two drinks that make the morning after just that little bit more intense than other alcoholic beverages…

My tip: definitely avoid these on Christmas Eve, because otherwise you could end up with a hangover that might last until after Christmas. And personally, sitting down to the next dinner on Christmas Day with a pounding head sounds like hell to me.
These drinks cause the worst hangovers
Do you know who the culprits are? Prosecco and Champagne! According to sommeliers Tyla and Marco Castelanelli, founder of Club Vino. Why, I immediately wondered—and you probably did too. It has to do with the second fermentation, during which alcohol and carbon dioxide are released. Because the bottle (or, in the case of Prosecco, the tank) is sealed, the carbon dioxide cannot escape and dissolves into the wine. According to Marco Castelanelli, the carbon dioxide in Prosecco and Champagne helps the body absorb the alcohol more quickly. And that makes you feel drunk faster.’
Yes, you read that correctly: sparkling wine can definitely make you drunk faster. And you may be thinking, ‘that’s handy,’ but it also leads to a much worse hangover.
All sparkling wine?
Interestingly enough, Castelanelli only mentions Prosecco and Champagne as the culprits, but since Crémant is made in the same way as Champagne (but cannot be called Champagne because Champagne may only be called Champagne if it actually comes from Champagne), I think you can assume that the same applies here. The same would seem to apply to Italian Franciacorta and better German Sekt.
Naturally, I would love to call this a brilliant loophole , but I think it’s more likely that Mr Castanelli simply couldn’t be bothered to list every sparkling wine and therefore stuck to the best-known ones.
But wait a minute…
Haven’t we heard about this kind of research before? Research claiming to identify which drink gives you the worst hangovers? Apparently, Limoncello causes the worst hangovers, while other studies claim that you should avoid Brandy and Whiskey if you don’t want a gigantic hangover. Now, I’m no scientist and certainly don’t pretend to be one, but I think I’ve figured out what’s going on here. Maybe it’s simply the case, and hear me out, that too much of any type of alcohol causes the worst hangovers? Groundbreaking idea, I know.
Hangover remedies
Fortunately, there are remedies for even the worst hangovers, and according to Castelanelli, they’re very simple. He says it already helps enormously to drink a glass of water between every drink, as well as another glass of water before going to bed. Personally (but once again: I’m no scientist, although I do have some experience with this particular subject), I’d like to add one more tip: take an ORS before going to bed (readily available at pharmacies and it really does help with a hangover).
Or simply don’t drink at all, but that’s rather drastic.
