Albert Adrià is coming to Taiko

Taiko Bar vis

Taiko, the Asian-inspired restaurant of acclaimed chef (and FavorFlav favorite) Schilo van Coevorden, is celebrating its fifth anniversary. To mark the occasion, during the upcoming anniversary year the chef will fly in an international top chef five times to prepare a so-called ‘four hands dinner’ with him in Amsterdam. They are all spectacular chefs with whom Van Coevorden has a special bond and who serve as a source of inspiration for him.

On Sunday 3 and Monday 4 November, he kicks things off with Albert Adrià, known for the legendary restaurant El Bulli, with which he made waves together with his brother Ferran. In Spain, he is still at the top with his group of innovative restaurants in Barcelona, such as Pakta, Enigma, Hoja Santa, Tickets, and Bodega 1900. Albert (once awarded the title of Best Pastry Chef by the World’s 50 Best Restaurants) is also the signature chef of Cakes & Bubbles in London, the dessert-only restaurant adored by dessert lovers. Adrià will pay tribute to Nikkei cuisine together with Van Coevorden.

Wagyu
In February, chef Hisato Hamada from Tokyo will follow. He is co-owner of the Japanese restaurant concept Waygumafia. With his hysterically expensive, 180-dollar sandwich, the ‘wagyu katsu sando’, he managed to create a true internet hype. Also on the list (for the month of March): French three-star chef Gérald Passedat, owner of Le Petit Nice (Marseille) and widely respected as one of the world’s best fish chefs. The following month, top chef Bobby Geetha will come to Taiko. As executive chef, Geetha is responsible for the (eighteen!) restaurants of Asha’s in the Middle East and England. This international chain, founded by Indian megastar Asha Bhosle, is known for its avant-garde Indian cuisine, one of the international cuisines in which, according to Van Coevorden, a great deal of innovation is currently taking place. He is keeping the fifth and final chef secret for now.

Taiko Bar
As part of Taiko’s fifth anniversary, Van Coevorden also announces that Tunes Bar, the cocktail bar next to Taiko restaurant, will henceforth be called ‘Taiko‘, a new bar with the continent of Asia in the spotlight. Think Japanese whiskeys, ‘Asian inspired cocktails’, and gin from all over the world. The bar-food menu features bites from the Taiko Cuisine kitchen, including the classic ‘TFC’—Schilo’s take on KFC chicken wings, but in typical Asian Taiko style (highly recommended!). And, of course, incredibly delicious sushi and sashimi.
