Albert Heijn employee makes a very special discovery on the shelves
It’s no secret that we get there earlier every year; the shelves have barely been cleared of the oliebollen before the chocolate Easter eggs are already waiting. Will we ever reach the point when it’s finally summer, with sunshine and high temperatures…? But by then, the kruidnoten are already staring at us from supermarket shelves, reminding us that December is just around the corner again.
But it can always be worse; this Albert Heijn employee made a very special discovery while facing up the shelves.
‘It’s March!’
If you’ve never worked in a supermarket: the term ‘facing up’ is used for moving items to the front of the shelves, so that it looks as though all the shelves are completely filled to the brim. And to do that, you may have to dive into the back of the shelves for a moment… And you can come across all sorts of things there. There’s a good chance that whatever you find has been lying there for a very long time, and in some cases that’s not a problem (like the well-known Bolsius candles, which of course keep perfectly well), but this particular find had been there for quite a while.
This employee found… a bag of kruidnoten. And yes, we joke every year about them appearing earlier and earlier, but it’s March now. MARCH. The employee was therefore rather surprised. Not long ago, we were still amazed that they were already on the shelves in August, but it’s therefore quite possible that you could already come across a stray bag in the supermarket. Well, it might actually be pretty tasty?
Or perhaps a new trend?
In any case, it may be better that this bag was left over from last season, because on closer inspection, mid-March seems VERY early to start with kruidnoten. Although; actually, apart from the packaging, there’s very little difference between chocolate Easter bunnies and chocolate Sinterklaas figures or Santa Clauses. Maybe it’s an idea after all to have everything available all year round. Then, for example, we could simply eat these chocolate Easter eggs all year round too — you won’t hear me complaining about that.
