At this butcher’s shop, you’ll find the tastiest spareribs in the Netherlands
More than 80 butchers entered their spareribs in the professional competition the Spareribs Trophy. This Trophy is awarded every year by the Koninklijke Nederlandse Slagers (KNS). It was the expert jury’s job to assess all the products. And the winner? It turned out to be a familiar face.
How do you actually judge spareribs? We asked the jury: “Making a good sparerib requires craftsmanship. So many factors influence the final result. All the finalists submitted a high-quality product, and all the spareribs were judged on aroma, taste, composition and preparation.”
They all turned out to be appealing spareribs and great products for the barbecue. The 10 finalists of the Spareribs Trophy had been announced earlier. But as always, there can only be one winner. Drumroll….
Winner of the 2022 Spareribs Trophy
The winner of the 2022 Spareribs Trophy is butcher William Hermanussen of the butcher’s shop bearing his name in Overasselt. During Butchers’ Week, butcher William Hermanussen received first prize in this professional competition. And not for the first time; the butcher also won in 2014 and 2019.
Spareribs that keep customers coming back!
The jury said of the winning spareribs from Slagerij & Catering Hermanussen: “These spareribs were prepared with care and expertise. They have a great bite and a delicious flavour. Spareribs that keep customers coming back!” William Hermanussen said in turn: “This is incredible! This is the third time we’ve been able to call ourselves winners. I’m incredibly proud! A reward for the hard work that goes into this artisanal product.”
Second and third place
Keurslager Van Kraaij from Schaijk won second prize. Third prize went to Keurslager Jongmans from Klundert. The Spareribs Trophy is one of the professional competitions organised by KNS. KNS is also organising the competition for the Tastiest Meatball this year. We’re already looking forward to it.
