While The Avocado Show in Amsterdam is still packed every day, Wild Strawberry Cafe in Buckinghamshire has stopped using avocados as of this week. The reason? They cannot be grown locally, so their ecological footprint is enormous—not to mention the illegal deforestation in Mexico to meet the huge demand.

Mexican drug cartels
As a result of our Western obsession, avocado exports are so lucrative that Mexican drug cartels are now also trying to cash in on them, according to Wild Strawberry Cafe in their explanatory Instagram post.
