Beer lovers unite: the first Fresh Hop festival in the Netherlands is coming
Beer lovers, take note! Saturday, October 12, 2024, is the day: the very first Fresh Hop Festival in the Netherlands will take place. The hop festival is organized by vandeStreek bier in Utrecht. It promises to be a unique day where hop enthusiasts, brewers and beer fans come together to celebrate the power of freshly picked hops.
What is Fresh Hop?
Fresh hops are used in the brewing process within 24 hours of being picked. The result? A real showstopper of a beer, packed with fresh flavors and aromas that you normally don’t encounter in beer. It is a true seasonal product that highlights the full aromatic power of the hops and offers a unique experience for anyone who loves characterful beer. The goal of the festival? For Fresh Hop to become just as much a tradition in ten years’ time as the famous Bock beer. Sounds good, right?
What can you expect?
From 12:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., dozens of different Fresh Hop beers from breweries from all over the Netherlands will be on tap. Indoors and outdoors – under a giant stretch tent – you can always enjoy tastings in a dry and convivial setting. And what goes better with beer than pretzels, a great BBQ food truck and some live music? Perfect!
Competition
There will be more than just tastings at the festival—you can vote too! The professional jury will choose “The Best Fresh Hop Beer in the Netherlands,” and you can vote for “The Tastiest Fresh Hop Beer in the Netherlands.” The awards ceremony will take place at 5:00 p.m., and the participating brewers will be there in person.
