This is great! Lidl sells huge Bavarian beer pack for next to nothing
It’s Alpine Week at Lidl, which means you can stock up on jägerschnitzels, apfelstrudel and rösti. Obviously incredibly lecker, but what really made us jump for joy was the huge Bavarian beer pack we spotted on the shelf. Ten specialty beers in one pack for next to nothing… Plan that Oktoberfest at home!
We’re crazy about German cuisine (although we do have our doubts about some German snacks). A nice beer from Bavaria is always a hit. Bavarian beer is simply in a category of its own. You could even call it an exceptional category of beer.
Bavaria: the ‘cradle’ of beer
You could call Bavaria the unofficial cradle of beer. It is Germany’s largest federal state, located in the southeast of the country. What makes beer from Bavaria so unique is that it must be brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot. That means the beer may consist only of water, barley, hops and yeast. Officially, the ingredient list according to this gebot was even only three ingredients long: water, grain and hops. Sounds like a simple list, but it makes incredibly delicious beer.
If you want your holiday to revolve entirely around beer, Bavaria is your destination. Nowhere else in the world will you find as many breweries and biergartens as in this German federal state. Why Bavaria isn’t on the same list as Chersonissos, Albufeira and Blanes, only Anton aus Tirol knows.
Ten beers for next to nothing
Okay, enough German lessons. So, what’s in that Bavarian beer pack from Lidl? Ten specialty beers, all different varieties. Here’s a little preview: Schneider Weisse’s Festweisse. It’s a fruity and spicy wheat beer that, according to the brewery itself, ‘tastes good with vegetables and light dishes, but of course also in a festive setting’. Luckily, that makes it a perfect addition to your Oktoberfest repertoire too. (Or a relaxed beer tasting with friends, of course. Don’t feel obliged to hang from the chandeliers in a Tyrolean outfit.)
