Beware: Lidl chocolate pretzels can cause sores on your tongue and in your mouth

Here we go again… once again, a supermarket chain is recalling a product. This time, it’s Lidl with a recall of the Salted Mini Pretzels in the dark and milk chocolate varieties from the Alpen Fest Style brand. The reason: ‘it cannot be ruled out that eating the Chocolate Salted Mini Pretzels may cause a burning sensation in the mouth and sores on the tongue and in the mouth.’ Um, excuse me?!

Hepatitis A in blueberries, fecal bacteria in sausages, and just last week Coca-Cola’s recall of four million cans and bottles due to excessive chlorate levels. In recent months, we have seen food safety warnings and the accompanying recalls of food products appearing time and time again on news pages. All kinds of toxic residues, salmonella, fecal bacteria, metal particles; the examples are almost endless.

This time, it’s Lidl warning us about its Salted Mini Pretzels in the dark and milk chocolate varieties. I find the dark chocolate ones incredibly delicious in particular. The combination of sweet and salty is irresistible anyway, and then there’s that crunchy inside… If you bought them, like I did, check the following. It concerns packages with a best-before date of 31-05-2025, lot code 8534 and barcodes 4056489775119 and 4056489775102.

You understand that you must not eat these pretzels if you have them at home. Return them to the store, where you will of course receive a full refund.
