Book it: this is the number one city in Europe when it comes to food

Napels Italie

Still want to go on holiday this year? Lucky you. That means you can still book a trip to the city where you can eat the very best, most delicious and most affordable food (is that a word?). And that city is… Naples!

According to Time Out, nothing beats Naples. At least, if you’re a foodie through and through. According to the online magazine, the Italian city is hands down the best place in Europe when it comes to food. Well, we couldn’t agree more.

The very, very best pizzas

Reason number 1: in Naples, you eat the best pizza in the world. It really is true. The art of making Neapolitan pizza is even included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Neapolitan pizzas are baked (briefly) in a wood-fired oven. They have a thin base and a wonderfully crispy, fluffy crust. The ingredients are incredibly fresh and sourced locally wherever possible. Yes, you can eat excellent pizza at nNea in Amsterdam. You can even try making Neapolitan pizza yourself. But really, truly, nothing beats a pizza from Naples itself.

The heaven that is Italian cuisine

There’s another simple reason why you should go to Naples: because you can completely immerse yourself in Italian cuisine there. The cuisine of incredibly good pasta, ice cream you’d kill for and incredible wines. Where sharing food is second nature and the love of it is passed down from generation to generation. Why weren’t we born in Italy again?!

Naples was crowned the best European food destination based on a survey of locals. Time Out asked thousands of locals around the world about eating out in their city. Naples came out on top. ‘Quality’ and ‘affordability’ were key factors mentioned by Neapolitans.

Weekend in Naples: book it

So book that trip to Naples. Flights seem to depart from Schiphol and Eindhoven Airport. Feel like getting away more often this summer (well, of course!)? This Spanish village is also well worth a visit. It was crowned Europe’s most beautiful hidden destination. See, this is how you turn it into a wonderful summer holiday after all.
