Breakfast Upgrade

Turn your simple brekkie into a dish that wouldn’t look out of place in the trendiest breakfast spot in just a few seconds. We’re giving you five ideas.

Iced Espresso
Making a cup of espresso is, of course, an art. Take it to the next level by making iced espresso. Grab the cocktail shaker, add 4 or 5 ice cubes, and pour your espresso over the ice. Shake for ten to fifteen seconds and there’s your cold espresso.
Fried Bread
Have an old slice of bread at home? Fry your bread in a layer of oil on both sides before topping it with fried eggs, avocado and sriracha. In England, you can get fried bread in every pub, and it’s the perfect hangover breakfast.
Sausage and Scrambled Egg Tacos
Every day is Taco Tuesday with these simple tacos from Bon Appetit. The filling? Sausage meat, scrambled eggs and tomato.
Quark Buns
Have oats and quark at home? Don’t put them straight in your bowl; make quark buns instead. Mix 250 grams of oats with 150 grams of raisins, 250 grams of vanilla quark, two eggs, one tablespoon of olive oil, one tablespoon of organic baking powder and a pinch of salt. Shape them into balls, and twenty minutes later (oven at 180 degrees) your hunger will be satisfied (recipe via Jet van Nieuwkerk).
Croissant French Toast
You can make French toast from stale white bread, but it’s even better when made with an old croissant. You prepare it in exactly the same way, but replace the bread with croissant. And the croissant soaks up the egg-cinnamon-sugar mixture beautifully. The result? Mushy yet sturdy French Toast that truly lives up to its name.
