Bye bye autumn blues, hello bock beer!

It’s my favorite square in Amsterdam: van Limburg Stirumplein, home to Piet de Gruyter, Fijnkost and Boótoe. And it’s about to get even more fun, because on November 3, autumn will be celebrated here in grand style. With the ultimate autumn drink: bock beer.

Okay, honestly, I’m normally not someone who gets excited about autumn. Summer already seems far too long ago, my tanned skin has turned white again, I hate the rain and then there’s that eternal cold. But, to quote Monty Python: always look on the bright side of life.
Silver linings
Because autumn has its fun sides too. Stewed meat, stamppot, smoked sausages, soup, pepernoten that have been on the shelves for a month already, everything with pumpkin, hot chocolate with whipped cream, and the ultimate autumn drink: bock beer. Restaurant Fijnkost and eetcafé Piet de Gruyter wholeheartedly agree, and this coming Sunday from 2:00 p.m. you can visit these two neighboring establishments for bock beer and bock beer dishes. For the occasion, Piet de Gruyter is making a special fries with bock stew, while across the street at Fijnkost you can enjoy homemade bock sausage with sauerkraut.
Certificate
To keep track of the many beers being poured and served, a stamp card has been created. You get one beer at Fijnkost and another at its neighbor’s. And professional bock beer drinkers, take note: rise to the challenge! Drink all nine beers and receive a certificate. What’s more, a taxi will be called for you. Probably for the best, since it’ll most likely be raining. After all, it’s still autumn.

You can find more information about the event on Sunday, November 3 here.
