Carnivores unite: Midtown Grill hosts Meat The Butcher

True meat lovers know: at Amsterdam’s Midtown Grill restaurant in the Marriott Hotel, you’ll eat the city’s tastiest steaks. In the mood for an evening of fantastic meat from the sizzling grill, paired with wonderful wines? Then quickly reserve your spot for the Meat The Butcher event.

I don’t eat meat every day, but when dining out I do enjoy meat. Good meat, perfectly prepared meat. And Midtown Grill is the perfect place for this. They serve the best cuts from around the world, including the finest American steaks, meat from Australia, New Zealand and Spain, and beef from Dutch cattle.

US meats with US wines
But it gets even better: during the exclusive Meat The Butcher event, the best of America’s meat and wine worlds are combined. And this promises to be a case of 1 + 1 = 3, with the flavors of the dishes—including steak tartare and braised beef short ribs—and the wines elevating each other to an even higher level. My mouth is already watering as I write about it.
Top-quality meat
The meat comes from top-notch supplier Nice To Meat. They buy the finest breeds of meat directly from the most responsible farms, where animal welfare is a top priority and is also certified. Take the short ribs, for example (in other words: beef spareribs). The superior flavor of the meat begins with the superior genetic origin (purebred quality) of the cattle. The animals are not given hormones, antibiotics or other junk, but graze on the vast open plains of the Midwest (Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma). To refine the flavor even further, they are supplemented with the finest-quality yellow corn during the final 100 days. This creates white fat and that beautiful marbling.

Cabernet Sauvignon
Of course, you don’t serve a cheap everyday wine with such fantastic meat. Wine importer Walraven Sax (known for Louis Roederer Champagne, Marqués de Riscal from Rioja and AIX rosé, among others) is bringing some of his American gems to Midtown Grill, including, of course: Cabernet Sauvignon, affectionately known in America as ‘King Cab’, from top producer Louis M. Martini. Its bold, spicy and full-bodied character makes it the ultimate food wine. And at the very top of the list—you may already see it coming: a beautiful piece of meat. The meat acts as a catalyst and brings out all the wine’s flavors, while the tannins (the aromatic compounds that come from the grape skins and seeds) become softer and smoother.
