Chinese McDonald’s introduces new menu item: the meatball burger

meatball

Hmm, I’m not entirely sure I can get behind this combination. On the one hand, why not? I love meatball sandwiches (the one at Amsterdam restaurant Renzo’s has been a favorite for ages) and I love McDonald’s. But on the other hand… Something about sticking to what you know? I go to Maccie for burgers. For Big Macs. Okay, and for nuggets. But not for meatballs.

I’m guessing it’s still a bit of a trial at the moment, because it’s only available temporarily in China. And what can we expect from this McMeatball? Side note: that’s not actually what it’s called, by the way—it’s called the Big Meatball Burger, and I think that’s a real missed opportunity.

How can you eat this neatly?

I wouldn’t recommend the Mac for a first date anyway, but how on earth are you supposed to eat this somewhat neatly? This burger consists of cheddar cheese, lettuce and meatballs in tomato sauce. In the photo, it actually looks pretty tasty… And secretly, I am quite curious to find out what it tastes like, although I have a feeling it will only be a disappointment. But okay, come on then: Maccie, introduce it in the Netherlands and I’ll definitely give it a try.
