Complaints about Knorr Wereldmaaltijden: what’s going wrong?
Those Knorr Wereldmaaltijden packets are a hit in the supermarket. Just take a box off the shelf, add a few more ingredients and, in no time at all, there’s something exotic on the table. Convenient and quick. But: complaint websites show that quite a few dissatisfied customers are out there.
Are these justified complaints, or are they just a bunch of whiners? We’ve listed the most common issues.
Is this really cooking?
Of course, you might wonder whether putting together a Knorr Wereldmaaltijd really counts as cooking. Because it’s not exactly creative, naturally: you add a traffic-light pepper, crème fraîche and minced meat or chicken breast, sachet one and then sachet two, and it’s ready.
Are you being ripped off? For the same money, you could mix your own spice blend, and cooking rice and making a sauce isn’t that difficult. But still: with a kit like this, you know it will work, and even the worst kitchen klutz can’t mess it up. At least, if Knorr sticks to its promises: always tasty, always good. And that, as the complaints below show, isn’t always the case.
Flavorless curry sauce
Gudrun K. has been eating Knorr curry sauce with chicken for 50 years. But lately, she says, it’s no longer worth anything. “The sauce is simply flavorless! What a difference compared to the past. My children don’t even come over for chicken curry anymore. Please give us the old recipe back.”
Disproportionate mess
Remon wanted to make tacos with Knorr Wereldgerechten. No success: “There are only a few shells, while more than half of the filling is left over. It’s a mess, the sauce adds nothing and it doesn’t resemble a traditional dish at all. And because of all the cooking liquid, adding water is unnecessary.”
From ‘just okay’ to simply disgusting
Hkke (yes, on the site you can make up your own name) isn’t happy with the new recipe for the paella. ‘“Tastes like nothing, and certainly not like paella.” Noor adds: “It was always so delicious, and now it’s simply disgusting. Why do they always change things that were perfectly okay?”
Piri piri is bland bland
Rico is angry about the chicken piri piri: “Very little flavor, the rice is boring and the dressing is no longer worth anything.” Nicole completely agrees with him: “The dish is much less tasty than the old one. The rice is bland and the dressing is simply disgusting.” For a dish that is supposed to be spicy, none of this sounds fiery in the slightest.
Where did the broccoli go?
Risotto with broccoli—that sounds good (?) Except that D. Rijsdijk discovered that the broccoli appears in the picture but not on the shopping list. “The result: the risotto looks nothing like what’s on the packaging.” Misleading picture!
Knorrig from too much salt
Johan is a loyal fan of the Wereldmaaltijden, but the tandoori went straight into the bin. “It was far too salty. We had to leave some of it and are now going to try other brands. What a shame, because normally we’re Knorr fans. This has made us Knorrig.”
Lots of vegetables? Well…
JRL likes to cook tabbouleh and uses Knorr for it. The packet says ‘lots of delicious vegetables’. Except that it turns out to be the same package, but without chicken. “So there aren’t actually any more vegetables in it.”
Carien saw the same thing with the Chicken Jalfrezi: “The difference between classic and ‘with lots of delicious vegetables’ is that the peppers have been switched around. How that gives you more vegetables is a mystery to me.”
