De Bijenkorf opens pastry shop in Amsterdam
Good news for chocolate lovers: today marks the opening of Patisserie de Bijenkorf. And now that we know that chocolate is not only delicious, but that eating chocolate helps against coughing—not that we are coughing, but prevention is better than cure, right?—we know where we will be lining up later.
For more than 100 years, the Bijenkorf pastry shop has been a household name. Since 1914, to be precise, when the Bijenkorf opened its doors on Dam Square. In the past, every store had its own bakery on the ground floor, sometimes connected to a lunchroom. With the opening of Patisserie de Bijenkorf, the bakery once again gets a prominent place on the ground floor, with its own entrance.
The iconic Boltaart
At Patisserie de Bijenkorf, all the famous creations by the Master Pastry Chef come together across 100 m2. From the iconic de Bijenkorf Boltaart, which has existed since 1984, to brownies. There will also be a chocolate fountain where you can make your own chocolate bars and decorate them with various toppings. The selection will also be supplemented depending on the season. Think lemon meringue pie and macarons made with fresh seasonal fruit in summer, and a mocha cake to go with your latte macchiato when it is cold outside.

You can take all these delicacies home, but with a small number of tables and chairs, there is also an opportunity to sample them on the spot. For the ultimate indulgence, order a champagne or prosecco as well.

Patisserie de Bijenkorf opens today at Warmoesstraat 170 in Amsterdam. Opening hours are Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
