Deliciously vegan: twice as much plant-based dairy at Lidl

Lidl is doubling its range of plant-based dairy products in its supermarkets. Oat drinks, vegan cheese and even a plant-based alternative to crème fraîche: it’s all available – for a modest price – in the supermarket’s refrigerated section.

Lidl believes sustainable food should be affordable for everyone. In Belgium, Lidl even did away with ‘sustainable’, calling it just ‘sustainable-ish’ instead, because these products shouldn’t be expensive. Whatever they call it, the supermarket is well on its way to becoming increasingly sustainable. Last year, it put many more meat substitutes on its shelves and opened a super-sustainable supermarket with solar panels, charging points for electric bikes and plenty of space for nature around the store.
Oat milk
Of course, the products aren’t just for hardcore vegans. Oat milk in your coffee is absolutely delicious, and that coconut yoghurt and oat drink with mango flavour sound delicious too. The range also includes slices of ‘cheese’ and grated vegan cheese. The taste? We were previously surprised by the bizarre flavours in vegan creations. Some substitutes are downright awful, while others are a pleasant surprise. So it’s simply a matter of trying them out.
Accessible
While developing the products, Lidl worked with the Dutch Vegetarian Association and V-Label Netherlands, the vegetarian quality mark. They say: ‘Through our collaboration, we’re making the vegetarian or vegan choice increasingly accessible.’
