Delivery review: Camping at Olof’s
Restaurants are open again, but home delivery is continuing as usual. And fortunately so! The days when home delivery meals mainly consisted of soggy pizzas and limp, non-fresh sushi are officially over—and that’s a good thing. Over the past few months, we’ve already done quite a few delivery reviews, and here’s another one: Camping at Olof’s!
I think the concept behind Camping at Olof’s is fantastic: Michelin-starred chef Chris Naylor has set up his little tent in Amsterdam’s oldest chapel, the Sint Olofskapel. Well, little tent… Make that lots and lots of tents. Not that you’ll be sleeping in them, but you will be eating delicious food in camping chairs. No Uncle Henk in the background (‘Oooop de camping! Met ze alluh elkaaarr’—of course, I did play it during this meal yesterday), but there is a really fun camping vibe. And it’s all corona-proof! Love it.
Camping at home with Camping at Olof’s
The delicious BBQ dishes Chris Naylor prepares there can now also be delivered to your home. Naturally, we had to test them. First impression: all cardboard containers. Even better! I always find such an abundance of plastic a real downer. One small side note: Camping at Olof’s doesn’t have a very large delivery area—so check via Deliveroo whether they deliver to you too.
And is that… a toilet roll?!
Hilarious detail. Well, you’re either camping or you’re not, right? And of course, that also includes the walk of shame to the toilet—with a toilet roll tucked under your arm. There’s also a card with some extra information and a QR code so you can put on some camping music yourself. Fun!
But then what really matters: the food
These kinds of details are fun, of course, but ultimately it’s all about the food. And honestly: I couldn’t do this on the BBQ myself. We had the menu for two, with an extra portion of Asian Chicken (which I absolutely recommend—I thought it was one of the tastiest dishes!). If you’re a bigger eater, I’d order a few extra dishes. For us, it was exactly enough with one extra dish!
What were the favorites?
The Asian Chicken, for one, and the roasted cauliflower with satay spices. The accompanying salads are wonderfully fresh and a lovely addition, and the bread and flatbread that come with it taste good. A little more dip next time and it would be perfect. The BBQ sauce is delicious, but almost not even necessary—the chicken tastes great without it too!
Good to know: if you order for more than €20, you get a 10% discount. Now that’s always a nice bonus! The menu for two normally costs €60, but 10% is deducted from that.
And most importantly… Is it recommended?
YES! I love BBQ myself, but this is definitely next level. Super-tender meat, beautifully fresh and well-seasoned fish, and I love the fun extras such as a playlist and a toilet roll. Even the fancy-pants crowd could appreciate this camping party, I think!
