Don’t miss these pubs in Shoreditch!

Shoreditch in East London is a neighbourhood you simply can’t skip during your city trip. Why? Pubs! The area has been gentrifying for years, but among all the cocktail bars there are still quite a few pub gems to try. Here are our tips!

Well & Bucket
Well & Bucket Oyster House Beers & Whiskies. Wonderful. This is the place to go if you like oysters, beer and/or whisky. The large, dark-brown establishment has a beautiful bar in the middle, a small garden at the back and a cocktail bar in the basement. When you settle in at Well & Bucket after a day of shopping and eating the tastiest bagels on Brick Lane, you’re guaranteed to stay for a few hours!
The Carpenters Arms
This pub was bought in 1967 by the Kray Brothers, the notorious gangster brothers who terrorised East London in the 1950s and 1960s. These days, no gangsters—just delicious beers. The bill is always reasonable by London standards, and the pub grub is consistently good. The ale pies and burgers are especially delicious!
The Crown & Shuttle
I would actually have liked to include Water Poet on this list. However, this legendary pub has closed. Fortunately, the people behind Water Poet are also the proud owners of Crown & Shuttle, which has a lovely beer garden. Countless different craft beers and a welcoming atmosphere. All you need when in London.
Owl and Pussycat
Pints of Guinness, ales, lagers and IPAs fly past you here; it really seems that nobody drinks wine or a normal amount of beer. The pub is beautiful but always packed. The golden tip: make your way through the crowd to the back, where you’ll find “The Dog House”, a small bar hidden in the beer garden.
