FavorFlav’s Tacky Christmas Dinner

Garish Christmas sweaters, embarrassing games and over-the-top Christmas decorations; every year, the month of December becomes a little more vulgar. The only thing that’s still lagging behind is the menu. Until now. Do you want a tacky Christmas menu that perfectly matches your oversized Christmas sweater and your friend’s glitter beard? Then take inspiration from FavorFlav’s tacky Christmas dinner!

Aperitif
Being the traditional people we are, we start our Christmas dinner with an aperitif: a drink when you arrive, before the meal. Its purpose is to stimulate the appetite—and you want that, because we still have plenty in store for you. A light sparkling wine, without too much sugar, is often served as an aperitif. But during this tacky Christmas dinner, all the rules go out the window. In other words, no champagne, but a Jägerbomb. A more delicious way to start this tacky Christmas is almost unimaginable: your guests are immediately energized by the Red Bull, while the spicy Jägermeister warms up their cold winter bodies. Be careful with Aunt Annie, though; this is not a drink for the faint of heart.
Ingredients (for 1 Jägerbomb):
- Large glass
- Shot glass
- Shot of Jägermeister
- Half a can of Red Bull
How to make it
- Pour the half can of Red Bull (125 ml) into the larger glass
- Pour the shot of Jägermeister into the shot glass
- Just before serving, carefully drop the shot glass into the larger glass.

Amuse-bouche
The small dish to get the taste buds going is also on the menu. Amuse means pleasure in French, so let’s make it fun! No cucumber with salmon or deviled egg, but serving you mini pizza. Finger food 2.0!
Ingredients
- A number of frozen pizzas of your choice (quantity depends on the number of guests)
- Cookie cutters
How to make it
- Prepare the oven pizzas as indicated on the box.
- After preparing the pizzas, let them cool for a moment (not too long, of course—you don’t want to serve cold amuse-bouches)
- Press small shapes out of the pizza using the cookie cutters and plenty of force
- Serve the mini pizzas nicely on a mini plate or amuse-bouche spoon.

Starter
For this tacky Christmas dinner, let’s take inspiration from Japan. There, fried chicken has been the only Christmas dinner ingredient that matters for years. And from KFC, no less. So you don’t have to think long about your starter. Hop on your bike in your Christmas sweater and quickly cycle to the KFC near you, then pick up a few buckets of fried chicken. Put them in the middle of the table—delicious to share! After all, it’s Christmas; shared dining is key!
Main course
You either love it or hate it: gourmetten. But it’s definitely corny, which makes it perfect for a tacky Christmas. Above all, don’t bother putting together a delicious meat platter yourself; buy one ready-made from the supermarket. Orange schnitzels are perfectly acceptable. And don’t forget the disgustingly delicious filled baguettes with herb butter! The smell? No problem with the Anti-Gourmet Smell Spray at home. Don’t have it at home? Who cares, it’s tacky Christmas: stink is allowed.
Dessert
This is a party. The tackiest dessert in the book, but oh so delicious. I present to you: vanilla ice cream with red Fernandes. Yes, really—you won’t know what hit you. Your teeth will fall out of your mouth because it’s so sweet, and the fizzy sensation is something you’ve never experienced before. Willy Wonka would be jealous of this dessert’s bubbliness. But be warned: once you go vanilla ice cream with red Fernandes, you never go back!
Ingredients
- Cheap one-kilo tub of vanilla ice cream
- Glass of red Fernandes
- Candy of your choice
How to make it
- Plop 3 or 4 scoops of vanilla ice cream into a bowl
- Pour a healthy amount of red Fernandes over it—enough to almost completely displace the ice cream, but not quite. Tip: the Fernandes must be fresh and very fizzy, otherwise the bubble effect will be lost.
- Garnish your bowl of ice-cold delight however you like. M&M’s, chocolate sauce from a bottle, licorice, the sky is the limit. As long as it doesn’t take too much effort.
Digestif
The after-dinner nightcap should of course be at least as tacky as the food. Pick one of these drinks, selected by Dutch hospitality staff.
Frisky
Whisky is generally a popular digestif. Not at this Christmas dinner, though. Pour a normal amount of whisky into your whisky glass (a cheap brand will do), then top it up with Fristi. A strawberry makes a fun garnish for the looks, and add a plastic curly straw as a nod to the Fristi—after all, that’s how you always drank it in the old days. Cheers!
Red wine cola
Hopefully you stocked up well for this dinner, alcohol-wise. Your guests needed something to wash down all these dishes with, right? Do you have some red wine left over? Great! Add half a can of cola and you have a delicious digestif.
Long Drink Salmari
A Salmari late in the evening goes down well with many people. As a shot, that is. But during your tacky Christmas dinner, simply serve it in a long drink. Delicious with ice. Sip away!
