Don’t throw away your Parmesan rinds: you can make a fantastic snack with them

You’ve grated your block of Parmesan right down to the rind. Or snacked on it, because why not. Either way, you’re left with the cheese rinds. Normally, you throw them away. What else are you supposed to do with them? Whoa! Don’t open the lid of your bin just yet. You can actually transform the rinds into a fantastic snack.

First, check whether there’s any wax on the rind. If there is, then the bin is indeed the final destination for your rinds. If not? Read on, because you can still eat them!

Crispy from the microwave

Earlier, we already tipped you off that you can grill the rinds in your pan. Delicious in a layer of oil, so they become crispy and can be used, for example, as cheese croutons. But there’s an easier trick. Crisp them up in the microwave! Place them on a microwave-safe plate and microwave them for 60 seconds. You’ll see and hear the cheese bubbling: that’s a good sign. After this, they become super crispy and are just like chips. Eat them that way, or dip them in your favorite dipping sauce.

You can actually apply this trick to any type of cheese. Taleggio and Gouda, for example. The important thing is to check that there’s no wax on the rind. Then you’re always safe.
