Famous Michelin-starred restaurant Fäviken is closing

Magnus Nilsson, chef of the famous – and extremely remote – Swedish restaurant Fäviken, announced on Monday that he is leaving the two-Michelin-starred restaurant. On Saturday, December 14, he will serve his final 30-course dinner.

Although the restaurant is not owned by the chef, owners Patrik and Ann-Charlotte Brummer have decided to close the doors of their restaurant, which opened in 2008 and is considered one of the best restaurants in the world, altogether: no Nilsson, no Fäviken.
Not forever
“I’ve always known that Fäviken was not going to be forever. To run a place like Fäviken, the thing you need to feel each morning is excitement. One morning I just woke up and for the first time I did not feel excited to go to work”, Nilsson said in an interview with the LA Times.
Six more months
He waited to announce the closure until the entire period had already been fully booked. The Swedish chef specifically did not want people to come only because the restaurant was closing. He also does not yet know what he will do afterward. “I do not want to spend my last six months of this most amazing project not enjoying it. I want them to be the best six months that we have done.”
Chef’s Table
Fortunately, the charcuterie production and shop in Åre, which are also run by Fäviken, will remain open after the closure. And of course, we still have the Chef’s Table episode to look back on (wistfully).
