Forget the Dubai Bar, Here’s the Bolusbar (and Monica Geuze Is a Fan)
You couldn’t escape it last year: the Dubai bar. What started with a chocolate bar filled with pistachio and knafeh soon turned into a flood of ‘Dubai’ creations. Dubai oliebollen, Dubai chocolate letters… We admitted that we were pretty fed up with the pistachio trend. No, we’re ready for something new. And we’ve found that something new in the Bolusbar!
A hint of Zeeuwse bolus in a crispy chocolate bar; how delicious does that sound? That’s what 23-year-old Chenna van der Voort thought too. The entrepreneur is from Zoutelande, so she knows better than anyone how iconic the Zeeuwse bolus is. She came up with the idea of incorporating the flavor of the bolus into a bar last summer. Six months later, the Bolusbar’s popularity is skyrocketing.

How did that happen? Partly thanks to influencer Monica Geuze. Chenna personally handed her a Bolusbar when Monica came to give a guest lecture at Chenna’s school. And well… If Monica is blown away by your product, you can bet your bottom dollar that half of the Netherlands will be too.
The Bolusbar really is incredibly well executed. They’re handmade in Yerseke, Zeeland, by chocolatier Maison Ticho. The bar contains a creamy filling with real Zeeuwse bolus and white Callebaut chocolate. Close your eyes and you’ll taste the sweet, cinnamon-like flavor of this Zeeland delicacy, along with that delicious Belgian chocolate. Take note, Jamin: this is how it’s done. Instead of filling your chocolate Easter eggs with something that’s not exactly nasi—er, appetizing.
