Forget the High Tea: Here’s the High Hamburger

There’s nothing wrong with a high tea with scones, mini sandwiches and a little chocolate bonbon. But it can often be a bit dull and stuffy. Couldn’t it be a little more badass? Yes indeed: here’s the high hamburger!

Burgers and bubbles
Diego Buik, the chef at restaurant Diego’s Burgers in Rotterdam, calls his latest invention the ‘High Slider’. What should you expect? Three tender sliders (in other words, small burgers) that pair perfectly with champagne from the Perrier-Jouët winery. And of course, as befits a high tea, the sliders are served on an elegant tiered stand.
Sliding into hamburger heaven
Diego is known for his experimental burgers and surprising flavor combinations, and you can taste that in the High Slider. The Classic consists of a thirty-day dry-aged beef patty with bacon, cheddar and homemade burger sauce. The Chicken is a combination of a crispy chicken burger served with spicy ketchup, truffle, honey, goat cheese and coleslaw. Finally, there’s the Vegan—and before you start bouncing around at the mere thought of it as a true carnivore… the patty made with Beyond Meat, homemade kimchi and spicy mayonnaise is certainly no lame alternative to the real thing.

With or without bubbles
The High Slider costs 15 euros excluding bubbles. Champagne can be added for 10 euros per glass or 60 euros per bottle. Cava is available for 6 euros per glass or 28.50 euros per bottle.
