FrietHoes Haarlem comes up with Frietje Sociaal and we think this is really lovely

We previously wrote about the caffe sospeso, the lovely Italian gesture of paying for an extra coffee with your order. Someone else who cannot afford it can come and drink it later – no questions asked. A chip shop in Haarlem is now applying this idea too, with their ‘social fries’…

In these times, FrietHoes Haarlem has come up with the lovely concept of ‘social fries’, allowing customers in the shop to pay an extra € 1.50, thereby contributing to fries for someone who is having a hard time. € 1.50 is not the cost of fries including sauce, but FrietHoes covers the rest. We think this is a wonderful initiative.
Everyone deserves fries
FrietHoes describes it on its website as follows: you can pay for fries in advance for someone who is struggling because of the crisis or something else, wants to warm their cold hands around a paper cone of fries, and could use some warmth from a fellow human being. That person can walk in and ask whether there are fries ‘in the pot’ and simply receive them, without any hassle or questions.
According to the company, everyone deserves fries. And we wholeheartedly agree! So we hope lots of people will visit the shop in Haarlem with this lovely Christmas thought in mind (they are located near the station), and enjoy a meal for two for a mere € 1.50 extra…
