Research shows: this is the fries of the future

Frietje truffelmayo (1)

Anyone who regularly visits a snack bar knows: the range of fries has been the same for around thirty years. There is so much innovation and technology, and the demand for sustainable and healthy options is also rising fast. But eating fries at the snack bar remains the same. With mayo and/or ketchup, or with satay sauce and onion, with only the occasional small exception. So we wondered: isn’t it time for a new kind of fries? Apparently, you thought so too!

Because when asked who will invent the Frietje Future for us? cafeteria owners and consumers 47% of respondents said that the current range of fries eaten out is not exciting enough, while 24% even consider the range inadequate. Another striking finding: consumers would like more sustainable and light options; for example, 50% of consumers already fry their fries in the Airfryer.

Without a topping, there’s no fun

According to cafeteria owners, fries with mayonnaise remain immensely popular, followed by fries speciaal and fries oorlog. Fries without sauce or a topping are not particularly popular (duhhh, makes sense if you ask me!). Both cafeteria owners and consumers were allowed to submit a recipe for the fries of the future, and from these Leon&León (known for the world’s first low-carb fries) together with ‘our’ snack expert Snackspert chose the fries they thought had the greatest potential. And it turned out to be….

Truffle Mayo Fries!

And I can totally understand that, because I regularly make truffle fries myself; extra delicious with some grated Parmesan on top. So I completely understand the truffle mayonnaise too. Truffle mayonnaise is of course easy to make yourself, but nowadays it is also available in all kinds of light or vegan varieties in supermarkets. Got a taste for it? Then take it one step further with these delicious mayos, or really take it to the next level and make fantastic loaded fries: with tortilla chips and frikandel.

Hopefully it won’t be long before we can order the tastiest and most original toppings for our favorite snack at the snack bar. Shrimp on your fries, truffle mayonnaise, cheese sauce or avocado; nothing is too crazy. 2020 is not only the year of corona, but also the year of the patatje met with an extra-special mét. Because mayo is so 2019!
