Who will invent the Frietje Future for us?

McChoco Potato frietje choco (1)

True story: we had a set chip day at home, and I still think chips (or fries, whichever you prefer) are one of the most delicious snacks ever. In fact, I’m not exaggerating when I say that those salty, golden-yellow beauties must not be missing from my last supper (which I hope won’t be happening for a long time). But… there really isn’t much variation when it comes to fries, which is why, together with fries disruptor Leon&León, we’re looking for the fries of the future. And we need your help!

Anyone who regularly visits the snack bar knows: the range of fries has been the same for about thirty years. There’s so much innovation and technology, and demand for sustainable and healthy options is also rising quickly. But eating fries at the snack bar remains the same. With mayo and/or ketchup, or with satay sauce and onion. Hashtag boringgggg!

Fries with sauce, fries war

Of course, you can get fries with the most unusual and flavorful toppings, such as Sergio Herman’s ‘Creamy Cheese & Kimchi Please’, which combines the full flavor of spicy kimchi with creamy melted cheese, pickled vegetables and finely chopped Jalapeño pepper. But for that, you have to go to a real Friet Boutique, and there are very few of those. So it’s always fries with sauce, loaded fries or fries war. Or sometimes a messy pile of fries; fries topped with all kinds of different sauces (also known as ‘mess fries’).

Frietje Future

That’s why we think it’s time for a fries revolution! Who will invent the Frietje Future for us? What will fries war 2.0 be? Perhaps sweet fries peace? Choclove fries, covered in chocolate and inspired by the McChoco Potato, which was sold in Japan in 2016? Light fries? A more responsible fries option, without dollops of mayo and peanut sauce (however delicious)? Fries without frying oil? (Think Airfryer fries.) In short, what would you like to order at the snack bar? We’d love to hear from you!

Snackspert on the jury

The recipes will be judged by an expert jury, including FavorFlav’s Snackspert and fries entrepreneur Leon de Winter. The winning fries will be presented on Monday, September 28 this year at the annual Culiperslunch in Amsterdam, where the entire Dutch food press can get to know your fries!

Will you join in?

Submit the name of your fries and the recipe here! You can enter until Friday, September 25 this year.
