Fantastic loaded fries: with tortilla chips and frikandel

LoadedFries-Favorflav

Imagine that you love fries, tortilla chips and frikandel. What do you think of these Mexican loaded fries? Pure. Heaven.

It’s actually strange that no one came up with this delicious combination sooner, because the basic ingredients are available in most snack bars: surely you can find fries, a frikandel and a bag of tortilla chips there too. The fries are fried until beautifully golden brown, then covered with a layer of tortilla chips and decorated with a neatly sliced frikandel. Finish the whole thing with cheese sauce, tomato sauce and some raw vegetables or coleslaw, and you’ll be king in your own little palace. A divine combination!

Special chef

The loaded fries were developed especially for trade magazine Snackkoerier by Remia. They appointed a special chef for the job, and that gentleman must evidently have done something very good in a previous life to deserve this tremendous honor. Coming up with new snacks and new combinations of snacks—that’s a wonderful job, isn’t it!

Loaded fries with tortilla chips and frikandel

Loaded fries—fries with surprising ingredients—are a true trend in the snack world. Just think of the kapsalon and the loaded fries by Jord Althuizen. Hopefully these loaded fries will prove so popular at many snack bars that they become a permanent addition to the menu.

Make it yourself

Otherwise, you can of course try making them at home. It’s not difficult.

1. Deep-fry the frikandel and cut it into even, diagonal slices.
2. Fry the fries until beautifully golden brown and sprinkle with some salt.
3. If you often bring the snack bar into your home, put the fries in a cardboard container lined with greaseproof paper. Don’t have one? Just grab a plate from the cupboard.
4. Add some tortilla chips and coleslaw, then freestyle with the garnishes as much as you like.
5. Finish everything with stripes of Gouda’s Glorie Creamy Cheese Style (snackbar style), your own homemade cheese sauce for fries, or another favorite sauce.
