From aubergines to bananas: who orders what in which city?

In Amsterdam, avocados have been replaced by aubergines, while white mushrooms are popular in Leiden. This is according to the annual overview from online supermarket Picnic.

Every year, Picnic presents an overview of the most-ordered products in the Netherlands. The national top 3? You might think that flour and toilet paper would be on it, but that is not the case. No, semi-skimmed milk, cucumber and banana are the three top products.
In Rotterdam, toilet paper was in fact the best-selling product by far. Last year, Amsterdam was still the avocado capital; by now, aubergine is the most-ordered product. But free-range eggs (Class M) and Spa Reine sparkling water are also popular in the capital.
Fit girls
The Netherlands is noticeably health-conscious overall. Compared with last year, meat and vegetarian products were more often replaced by vegetables and fruit. The biggest vegetable and fruit fans can be found in Ede, Arnhem, Leiden and Delft. In Delft, just like in Amsterdam, aubergines are popular; Leiden goes for white mushrooms, Arnhem enjoys sweet pointed peppers, and Ede more often chooses Jonagold apples.
People in Utrecht are apple fans too, but they prefer Elstar apples. Combined with porridge oats and bananas, naturally. What a bunch of fit girls!
Meat, beer and energy drinks
Almere is being a little less healthy: if we are to believe the analysis, people there eat the most meat. Beef mince, to be precise. Flevoland residents also enjoy the occasional can of energy drink.
The biggest beer drinkers? According to Picnic, you will find them in Gouda and Helmond. Followed by buttermilk and unsalted butter, could these be the anticipated hangover orders?
Does nobody eat bread anymore? Of course they do. People in Zoetermeer love it. Preferably white bread rolls and farmhouse wholegrain bread. Bread is also number one in Apeldoorn, but there they prefer wheat tiger bread. And last but not least: in Nijmegen, they go for currant buns.
