Gordon Ramsay goes undercover to eat out – wearing pink lipstick

It’s difficult when you’re a famous chef who wants to review a restaurant and you’re recognized at the front door. Gordon Ramsay has a creative solution: a straw hat, blonde wig and soft pink lipstick. For his new show To Hell and Back, he fits perfectly in with a group of girlfriends at a seafood restaurant.

‘This tastes like cough syrup!’ and ‘Just look at how dry that fish is!’ Typical Gordon Ramsay: he doesn’t mince his words when he has to give his opinion about a restaurant. But at Southern Kitchen seafood restaurant in Richmond, Virginia, they must have been surprised when a well-dressed blonde woman stood up to give her unfiltered criticism of the shrimp, burnt chops and fried fish. To avoid being recognized, Gordon had a makeup artist transform him into Libby Lu, who went to lunch with her book club. It took half an hour for the first fish dish to arrive at the table. Gordon, er… Libby, was not happy.

Desperate restaurants
Ramsay cooks up a storm; he has fourteen restaurants in England and almost thirty more in the rest of the world. In recent years, he has mainly become known for the television programs in which he helps desperate restaurant owners turn their restaurants into something worthwhile. Every episode starts in the same way: Ramsay goes somewhere to eat and criticizes every bite. If the owners are also arguing, the kitchen staff are on the verge of burnout and the service keeps them waiting for hours, all the ingredients for a successful episode are in place.
Not on TV yet
Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours To Hell and Back is broadcast on Net 5. Unfortunately, the episode featuring Gordon Ramsay in pink lipstick and a blouse still hasn’t aired on Dutch television.
